“Crossing South Improved My Life!

Greetings. My name is L*** F****** and I’m a San Diego native. Earlier this year I started watching your fine show, “Crossing South” on KPBS.

I was always fearful of travel to Mexico, hearing a plethora of scary stories. My only memories of Tijuana were from my SDSU days when we traveled south to frolic.

I was intrigued by the Crossing South segment on Mi Casa Supper Club, so my friends and I decided to go on an adventure. We had the best time with Chef Bo, and now we’re hooked on Tijuana and surrounding area.

We volunteer at a Tijuana orphanage, rescue animals, visit the CECUT, and try new restaurants thanks to your show. I estimate I’ve brought over twenty “newbies” to Tijuana; all folks who had the same preconceived notions I did.

I have a suggestion for a story, which I will explain in a separate email. However, I wanted to thank you for your show which prompted me to travel to Tijuana, explore the city, try new restaurants and go on countless adventures!

I will continue to “cross south” which enriches me as a human being and has provided me with unforgettable experiences.

Thank you for opening the door.

Sincerely,
L.F.
La Mesa, CA”

“I absolutely LOVE your show. I grew up traveling in Baja and loving Mexico and culture there, and your program is so wonderful. I love how you find the joy in exploring all that wonderful everything that is just south of our border. Many thanks for your show!!! K. K.”

“That episode is the gift that keeps on giving. Sooooo many of my clients talk about the show and visit some of the many places that Y’all feature. Abrazos!”
-Susanne from Susanna’s Restaurant Rosarito

“I would say about 15 customers have come up to us and mentioned they saw us on Crossing South. I feel that Crossing South is a great promotion of Northern Baja California.” -Adriana Mayoral, Casa Mayoral

Thank you for sharing your shows!!! I have enjoyed seeing you with your show here in Chicago, IL. on our OBS station Channel 11. This show on tonight today Saturday 12/17/2022 was your visit to a gentleman and his cheese farm where you sat down with him to taste his cheese dishes. Does that farm of Marcello’s Cheese have a website? I do hope so! And way again thank you for your shows they have been so nice to see.

Good show. Tecate beer is my regular beer but I have to drink it in a glass or cup for the best flavor. I live in the San Diego back country and consider it our most local beer and a great beer. Cheers!

I watched the episode about football in Mexico, a few days ago. One of my favorite episodes, now. I had no idea this was going on and I live in Chula Vista. I love how you got in there and became a part of the team, Jorge. Thanks for the education.

I also watched tonight’s premier. My husband, my parents and I have enjoyed Laja before. Thanks for bringing those memories back!

Jorge, makes me so hungry when he is sampling the food down in TJ. Love his program. Just watched him sampling tacos off the Kokopeli food truck, amazing tacos. Loved the joking between him and chef “oso”.

Your recent episode based in Tecate was perhaps the best I’ve seen. You showed the potential future of food and coffee (which is not very popular in Mex) and the past of the Kumeyaay with enormous information and humor, as usual. As an American who lived in Tecate, you certainly made it look a million times more appealing and appetizing with regard to my own tainted opinion. It’s one place that can use the publicity. It should be a magnet to Americans and a then boon to the Mexican economy, but sadly it’s not. On the northern side of TJ’s border is a vibrant city and with Tecate, it’s quite the contrary. The anthropologist was fabulous and you got him to present great information intelligently and attractively. I can’t believe that I never went to that museum when I lived there!! Driving in Tecate is fraught with problems and I minimized my activity sadly. But, I hope your show, which has aired repeatedly, sends at people, who otherwise would not have gone, to Tecate. Perhaps you’ll consider some time in the future, of returning there and drawing more attention to the location. Thank you for what you do and though I didn’t appreciate your show initially (I’m a snob.), I have slowly become fond of it, mostly because Jorge’s take on things is somewhat childlike but very cute and sweet. Good luck with the show.
